SEARCHING RUSSELL LIBRARY'S COLLECTIONS

The Russell Library provides information about its collections through its Collections Information Database, GIL-Find (University of Georgia’s library catalog), and several national databases such as Worldcat and ArchiveGrid.

The Russell Library also provides direct access to its digital collections on its web site and through the Digital Library of Georgia portal.

Search Russell Library's Collections Information Database

Using this database, patrons can search keywords across all the of the collections open for research at the Russell Library. Patrons may also use this database to browse collections by titles or by the individual(s) or organization responsible for creating each collection.

Each collection description includes:

  • a biographical or historical note
  • a scope and content note which details collection information (inclusive dates and materials)
  • an organization and arrangement note
  • a description of series within the collection
  • a list of major subjects documented in the collection

Russell Library Collections in GIL Find

All Russell Library collections have basic information about them in the UGA Libraries Catalog, Gil Find. The most effective way for patrons to access relevant Russell materials in Gil Find is:

  1. Choose “Advanced Search”
  2. Enter search term (s)
  3. In the left column, under "Locations", choose "Special Collections Russell Archival Collections".

Searching for Collections in National Databases

Many U.S. archives and libraries submit information about their collections to national databases that are available to researchers online. The Russell Library provides information about its collections to these national databases:

ArchiveGrid connects patrons with primary source material held in archives around the world. Patrons can browse and search for historical documents, personal papers, family histories, and more using a variety of search strategies in the ArchiveGrid platform.

WorldCat

WorldCat connects patrons with primary source material held in archives around the world. Choose advanced search for options to choose materials based on format. PC users can right-click on one of the links below and add it as a Bookmark or Favorite. Mac users can open their Edit Bookmarks or Open Favorites window and drag one of the links into that window to add it.
